How’s it going guys?! We are in the thick of Autumn with a healthy dose of seasonal cocktails. I love drinking bourbon, especially in the Fall. It doesn’t get much better than sitting by a warm fire with a nice drink in hand if you ask me.
One of my favorite cocktail drinks happens to be an old fashioned. Traditionally, these cocktails are simple to make. All you have to do is grab a rocks glass, toss in some bourbon, ANGOSTURA aromatic bitters, sugar, water and ice and you are good to go. But it can also be fun to experiment with this classic recipe, which is why I partnered with ANGOSTURA bitters to craft a delicious twist on this age old cocktail. This Cinnamon Rosemary Old Fashioned recipe happens to be one of my favorites. What’s more, it is perfect for cooler weather. This will be one that you’ll want to make over and over again this season.
The first step in making this cocktail is going to be your syrup which you’ll make from scratch. But don’t let that freak you out! It is super easy and smells amazing. Here are your ingredients and instructions:
Cinnamon Rosemary Simple Syrup:
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup water
6 sprigs rosemary
3 cinnamon sticks
Instructions:
In a saucepan, combine honey, water, rosemary sprigs and cinnamon sticks over medium heat. Bring t oa simmer, stirring frequently until honey has dissolved into water. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely. Once cool, remove rosemary and cinnamon sticks and put in air tight container so you can keep using the syrup for future recipes. (Trust me, you’ll want to!)
When you are ready to build your drink just follow the recipe below and enjoy. This cocktail is great for parties because it’s easy to craft in bulk and neutrally allows it to be paired with a range of hors d’oeuvres.
The cocktail:
4 tsps Cinnamon Rosemary Simple Syrup
3 dashes Angostura Bitters
2 ounces bourbon
1 orange peel
rosemary spring
Ice
Instructions:
Add 4 tsps of the simple syrup and 3 dashes of ANGOSTURA aromatic bitters to an Old Fashioned (or rocks) glass. (For some additional depth, you can add in a dash of ANGOSTURA orange bitters, too!) Swirl syrup and bitters around until mixed. Add bourbon, ice, orange peel and stir. Finish off the presentation adding a sprig of rosemary to the glass to garnish.
There you have it. A great-tasting cocktail for the Autumn season that will impress your guests. The crucial ingredient that adds balance and complexity to this cocktail is ANGOSTURA bitters. In fact, you may be surprised to learn that although ANGOSTURA bitters was founded in 1824 as an aromatic essence for medicinal purposes, it has since turned into the leading cocktail bitters used by high-end cocktail lounges, dive bars and home bartenders alike, all around the globe. Just a few dashes will elevate and enhance any recipe.
Be sure and pick up your own bottle of ANGOSTURA bitters at your local grocery or liquor stores nationwide to elevate your cocktails all season long.
Enjoy!
